Sandy is Comin!

Our area suffered a lot of flood damage from Hurricane Irene last summer.  News says that while we won't be getting lots of snow, Irene has an ugly sister named Sandy, and she's coming for a visit.  We're expecting high winds and rain starting Sunday night and right into Wednesday.  There is a pretty firm guarantee that there will be large amounts of power outages.   We have replenished our dog food supply, we're bottling some water, flashlights are charged and we always have a dog first aid kit ready.  Probably most importantly, we're going to get the boys out for some good exercise tomorrow morning since it's likely they will be stuck inside for a while through the storms.   Hoping all of YOU in her path stay safe and are preparing for yourselves and your furry friends as well.

Fall Fun!

Umm, I need these leaves in one big pile please.

I have always LOVED Fall!  I love running and jumping in the leaves...and even doing my business in them (shhh)!  The cooler weather is the bomb too!  Do me a favor...get out and play with your pups this weekend.  We dogs get so bored at home all week waiting for you to come home from work.  Happy Friday!

Snow Boots!

Does anyone out there have a good dog snow boot recommendation?  The snow will be flying soon in our part of the world, and both Piper and Murray have issues with "snow paws".  We have been struggling, but trying to use, a set of boots we bought a few years back.  The idea behind them is great, but we have a lot of trouble keeping them on their paws while walking or out playing.  It's a wonder we have not lost one in a deep snow pile yet!  We are using the Muttluks brand of boot that velcros around the leg for a snug fit.  It just isn't doing the job and I am figuring there are better made boots out there today.  If anyone has a set they use and love (and remember we have two big dogs) please pass the information on if you wouldn't mind.  I would like to treat my boys to some new winter boots!  THANKS!

My New Favorite Collar

I am not being paid to do this review, I just wanted to pass on how happy I have been with my purchase.  When Murray took his dog class late last spring, his teacher recommended the Lupine brand of collars and leashes.  It wasn't long (I love to buy dog stuff) before we ordered their "combo collar" with a matching leash in the the style "Dapper Dog".  What drew me to this particular collar was the "combo" aspect.  It's all fabric except for the hooks, so it's in no way a clunky chain like a choke or prong collar, but it is designed to keep the dog from slipping out of the collar and it also gives you, the human, added control.  I can absolutely see how this collar would be ideal for training, and then also transition right into being a great walking collar.  It's not meant to be worn if your dog is not leashed.  We don't keep collars on our dogs all the time, only when leaving the house.  99% of the time it is just like Murray has a regular fabric collar on, but now in those times of trying to bolt after a squirrel, or pull to visit a passing dog (he walks well, but not perfect haha), we have the added security and control to keep him safe and held back.  Lupine guarantees their products even if they have been chewed.  Our boys aren't big chewers anymore, but our trainer confirmed the company will replace a chewed through product.  How awesome is that?!  The design choices are a super added bonus too!  Murray's just adorable wearing his "dapper dog".  I highly recommend Lupine products myself now.

PS...Please don't forget you can vote daily for Murray in the Monster Cute Contest.  Thanks!

Halloween Spirit

One more in the spirit of Halloween month.

"I refuse to look at those scary pumpkins!"

Super Murray

In honor of Halloween in a couple weeks, I wanted to share my most favorite costume pic of Murray.  He was Super Murray in 2007 and I don't believe there was ever a more adorable super hero in the history of all the world!

My mom thinks I should be awesome at agility since I have super powers!

Tasty Tuesday: Whole Life Organics

We received these tasty treats in our September Bark Box and both Piper and Murray just love them!  We use them quite a bit when we have our weekend runs in the field.  They are great small treats for enticing a wandering dog back to you!  They look like styrofoam peanuts (yes, packing peanuts) but they must taste awesome!  Being organic is an added bonus :)

Pink Pups!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it seems every year there is one more person I know that is fighting the disease.  May we all ban together with these ladies and surround them with our care support!  What I wasn't very aware of is that it is possible for our furry friends to receive a similar cancer diagnosis.  I guess it makes sense that they can, I just hadn't given it much thought.  Mammary cancer is more common in cats than dogs, but it can occur in both and quickly spread to other organs.  So while donning our pink attire in a show of support and kinship with our human friends, let us not forget our dog and cat friends battling the same disease.

It's Squirrel Season!

In our neck of the woods (northeast USA), the fall season is upon us and we just adore the cooler weather.  We get doggie run play dates, far fewer clippings and baths, and car rides (because it's not hot enough to cook us anymore!)...yay!  Also with fall comes loads and loads of our favorite... scurrying squirrels!!!  I don't know about all of your dogs out there, but mine absolutely LOVE LOVE this time of year.  Piper and Murray are on a constant hunt for their furry little friends.  I am not sure they would actually ever want to catch one (and if they did, they might be more scared of it than it would be of them), but they can't get enough of chasing them full speed through our backyard, down sidewalks (with a human at the other end of the leash...ugh), in fields when running...ANYWHERE!  It is the most hilarious this time of year when I open the back door to let them out, and without knowing if any squirrel visitors are even out there, they tear out to opposite ends of the yard as if on patrol and after a criminal on the run.  There generally are a couple squirrels hanging around gathering for winter, and then the barking and jumping up on tree trunks and flying through the air begins.  One afternoon I thought Murray was going to scale the stone wall along the back of our yard he was in such hot pursuit.  Ah the joys found in the small things in life.  Well, I will sign off with a HAPPY SQUIRREL SEASON to you all :)  Stay safe patrol pups!

I know this is just a toy squirrel...
but I caught him too hehe :)
